Dumisani Mbebe's Biography, Wife, Career & Scandals

Dumisani Mbebe was born and raised in Transkei, Nqamakwe. Watching western films inspired Dumisani’s career choice. Mbebe attended Lukhanyiso Junior Secondary School and Ngconolo Secondary School respectively. 

He graduated with a B.A in English and Psychology in 1996 at Vista University, Port Elizabeth. In 1999 he graduated with a Performers Diploma in Theatre then moved to Scotland in the year 2000 to attend the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama for a Masters of Drama in Acting.


He is best known for his role as Dumisani Shabani in the SABC1 soapie Generations, from 2008-2011.

He is also known for his leading roles in the SABC1 drama series Interrogation Room and Divers Down; and his starring role in the e.tv drama series Shooting Stars.

He also starred as Kwezi Mthetho, the CEO of Kwezi Dezign, in the Mzansi Magic telenovela Inkaba, from 2012-2013.

Mbebe had small roles in the feature films Country Of My Skull (2004) and Primeval (2007). He also appeared in the made-for-TV movies Einmal So Wie Ich Will (2005) and The Poseidon Adventure (2005).


He had a recurring role as Officer Sadig in two episodes of medical drama ER in 2006.

In 2011 he was fired from Generations after repeated behavioural problems on set. In the same year he played the role of boxing gym owner Malusi in the eleventh season of the SABC1 drama series Soul City.

It is alleged that Dumisani would miss shootings with no valid excuses. It is also alleged that Mbebe would arrive on set drunk with no changed behaviour. After a couple of verbal warnings he was killed of the soapie.

Dumisani is married to fellow actress Mbali Maphumulo. So who is Mbali Maphumulo?

Mbali Maphumulo is a South African singer, dancer and actress best known for her starring role as Amira Mokoena, a whimsical songwriter living in a fantasy world, in the e.tv drama series 4Play: Sex Tips for Girls, from 2010-2012.

Apart from touring overseas with the stage production of The Lion King, she also starred in the international smash hit musical Umoja. She recorded solo songs for both shows.

She also played the role of Fikile - James' (Dingaan Mokebe) girlfriend - for a three-month story arc in the SABC2 soapie Muvhango, in 2008.

Maphumulo also appeared on the Shell Road to Fame talent contest to kickstart her singing career. She has shared the stage with Hugh Masekela and Suthukazi as a backing vocalist.

She was crowned Miss Kaizer Chiefs in 1997 and still features in the modeling scene.

Her role in 4Play was her first starring role on television. She later starred in the Mzansi Magic miniseries Abangani, in 2013. Other television series she has appeared in include eKasi: Our Stories, Isibaya, Muvhango and The Wild.

In 2016 Mbali had a recurring role as Nomonde on the Mzansi Magic drama series Is'thunzi, which reunited her with series creator and director Amanda Lane, with whom she worked on 4Play and the SABC1 drama series Tempy Pushas. She returned to the role in Season 2, this time with added credits as the series costume designer, script translator, hair and makeup artist.

Her hometown is Umlazi. She is not to be confused with fellow actress Enhle Mbali Maphumulo (formerly known as Mbali Mlotshwa).
