Lunga Mofokeng is a South African actor who is best known for portraying Andile Dikana in The River. The 26 year old was born in Kahlehong Gauteng 1996.
He won the runner-up for best performing actor at his school’s festival in grade 10 and later went home with an award for the best actor
the following year. These were in addition to other accolades and the fame he garnered then as a young boy.
Mofokeng had his tertiary education at City Varsity at the Braamfontein Campus in Johannesburg. He majored in acting for camera and live performance and subsequently graduated with his mates.
Lunga has proved that it takes passion and consistency to get to the top in any field of endeavor. The actor was first introduced to acting in grade 10 by his friend, but instead, he abandoned the art shortly afterward because he lacked interest in it then. After winning the first runner-up in his school play, he became committed to the art.
His journey to greatness, however, began after an agent spotted him during one of his school’s plays. Mofokeng, during his graduation year, impressed an agent during a play so much that the agent promised to sign him immediately after graduating. Forward to 2017, the actor kept pushing and never gave up on his dream of becoming a professional actor.
So that year, he decided to go for an audition at a theatre company he did his internship for a couple of months. He was also going for auditions in between the gaps until an acting opportunity eventually came his way. That was how he landed a role as a young cameo in the local project, Ring Of Lies.
Shortly after Lunga bagged a role in Ring Of Lies, he auditioned and was successfully hired to play Andile Dikana in The River. Besides his on-screen projects, Mofokeng also has some theatrical credits. In fact, he actually started in the theatre.
He played Thapelo in Poetry versus Sketching (directed by Jefferson Tshabalala), Jojo on Space Rocks, directed by Craig Morris, and Frankie on Kaffirs, directed by Charlie Samson.
Some of the films he has featured in include Who’s Next (as Sean), Selfish Heart Bill as directed by Itumeleng Nomtshongwana, and Die Kantoor. Others are A Woman’s Wrath (as Tebogo and directed by Nompumelelo Gumede) and Raquel as Detective Charles.
Lunga’s on-screen character, Andile Dikana, is gay in the television series. And despite being straight in real life, Mofokeng has managed to win the hearts of the show’s productions and viewers alike through his acting skill.
Andile is the son of Lindiwe Dlamini Dikana and top cop Zweli Dikana (played by Sindi Dlathu and Hlomla Dandala, respectively) in The River. He is regarded as the softest and most vulnerable person in his family. Despite being someone who loves being on his own, he has, on several occasions, been dragged into his family’s endless issues and drama.
However, over the last five seasons, Andile has grown to become a man and someone who can make choices of his own regardless of who is involved. One of the reasons Lunga has been killing this role is because of his open mind and ability to jump into character once he slips into the costume.
Through his role in The River, he has earned a massive fanbase. He has also made substantial money from the show. Above all, the show has opened up several opportunities in the industry for him, thereby making him more accomplished than many anticipated.
Despite being linked to South African actress Lorraine Moropa for so many years now, there is a strong indication that nothing serious is going on between the two long-term friends.
In a recent interview, the actor admitted that he is seeing someone, but he, however, declined to speak further on the whole the lucky lady is. The actor, however, promised to introduce his girlfriend to his fans at the right time because he doesn’t believe in secrecy and hiding. According to him, her identity has not been revealed because he is protecting her.
