Following several delays, Drake has revealed an official release date for his upcoming album, Certified Lover Boy.
On Friday morning, the Six God interrupted ESPN‘s regularly scheduled SportsCenter program with a cryptic, glitchy commercial to make the announcement. Stylized in the form of a broadcast hack, the stealthy ad featured a piece of cardboard with a clear, handwritten message: “CLB September 3.”
Earlier this month, Drake confirmed that Certified Lover Boy was finished while stopping by OVO Sound 42’s Fri Yiy Friday show on Sirius XM. “Album’s cooked. Looking forward to delivering it to you,” Drake said during his brief appearance. “I hope everybody in the world is blessed. I hope everybody has their drinks, everyone’s locked in. Good vibes and good energy for this weekend.”
“OVO, we aim for the head, we don’t aim to please. Certified Lover Boy on the way, and that’s for anyone in the way.”
Aside from his album rollout, Drake recently reignited beef with Kanye West with select bars on Trippie Redd’s “Betrayal,” where he raps, “All these fools I’m beefin’ that I barely know // Forty-five, forty-four (Burned out), let it go // Ye ain’t changin’ sh*t for me, it’s set in stone.” Ye, of course, retaliated by quickly posting and deleting the location of Drake’s Toronto, Ontario home.
Stay tuned for updates on Certified Lover Boy.
