Ama Qamata Biography

 The outstanding talent of Ama Qamata who you may know as Puleng Khumalo on the popular Netflix series, Blood and Water has endeared her to many fans, who watch the series.. Ama Qamata has always had an interest in acting and she knew she was made for the spotlight right from a very young age. Her passion and ability to take advantage of opportunities when they come have gotten her a number of starring roles in many South African TV series.


Ama has hit many milestones at a very young age and if she continues at this pace, we can be sure of seeing her more often in most of our favorite blockbuster movies and TV series.

The Star was born on September 2, 1998, in Cala, Eastern Cape, South Africa. At the age of three, she had to move to Johannesburg with her family.

She attended Reddam House School and matriculated in 2016, after which, she took a year-long break before going into university. Ama  got admitted into the University of Cape Town to study for a degree in Theatre and Performance but she dropped out in her second year to give better attention to her acting career.

Qamata’s acting skills seem to be inborn as it is something she has been doing since high school. Her brief stay in the university must have improved her skills to an extent since the course she was studying was in alignment with her career which was just starting off at the time.


On her 21st birthday, while she was in Cape Town shooting for the first season of Blood and Water, her family flew into town from Johannesburg to celebrate the milestone with her. From this, you can tell that she has a very loving and supportive family.

Ama is one of those South African stars who realized their talents early in life and considering the fact that she started off as a child star, you can tell she has supportive parents. She started participating in drama in high school and featured in the advertisement for Mac Donalds and Cheese Curls during this time.

The actress  made her debut appearance in the movie industry in the sitcom My Perfect Family where she played the role of Naledi in 2016. In 2018, she played the recurring role of Thandi in the soapie, Rhythm City.

She got her first lead role when she played the role of Nobuhle Ndaba in Gomora. Her outstanding performance in the South African TV show got the attention of the producer who helped her get the role of Puleng Khumalo in the Netflix original series, Blood and Water which is by far her biggest score so far in the film industry.

She has been featured in movies with some of the big names in the game like Katlego Danke, Connie Chiume, Mduduzi Mabaso, and Mpho Molepo. At a very young age, the talented star has attained what most older artists are still wishing for.

Ama Qamata  played the role of Puleng Khumalo in Netflix’s original series Blood and Water. She played the role of a teenager who lost her sister at birth. Every year, her family remembers the tragic incident on her late sister’s birthday and she is made to blow off the candles on her supposed birthday cake.
