Getting to know Nay Maps

Nay Maps may not have gotten to the top of the ladder in the show business, but his potentials are just too outstanding to ignore. Though relatively new in the industry, the young man has made some remarkable achievements some of his contemporaries can only dream of.

One interesting thing about Maps is that he is naturally gifted with many talents. And being a focused young man, he makes good use of them all, establishing himself as a force to reckon with and an all-rounder to watch out for. He also has a lot of people who roots for him on social media. He inspires many young people and has continued to improve his personality to become a better version of himself.

Nay Maps is one South African entertainer with many exceptional talents, all of which have helped him

maximize his potentials and make a great career in the entertainment industry. Though professionally known as Nay Maps, this hardworking young man was named Nkosinathi Maphalala by his parents after his birth. He is easily recognized as an actor, but apart from his acting talents, he makes extra cash from his music career, business venture, TV presentation job, and entrepreneur.

Nay has had an amazing mixed career over the years. He has worked with notable people both within and outside the South African entertainment world. His talents have also taken him to places across the country. In fact, it’s been an awesome journey so far for the young man.

Nay Maps calls Gauteng province home. He was born in the region, precisely in Pretoria, on the 30th of March 1989. The actor was raised in his hometown, after which he left the area for greener pastures in the city. Maps had his primary and secondary school education at Sunnyside Primary School and Lyttelton Manor High School, in Pretoria. He graduated from the University of Pretoria, where he studied Information Technology, programming, and software.

The actor is blessed with an amazing support system and lovely people in his life. His family has been supportive right from the beginning of his career, and they have never relented in proving their love for him. Nathi is the son of Bishop Simeon Maphalala and his wife. The two are also parents to his only sisters Thando Pear Maphalala and Wandi Grace Maphalala. Unfortunately, Bishop Simeon passed away in July 2020 at the age of 59 from an undisclosed cause.

Nay’s sisters are all doing well for themselves, but they are not as famous as their celebrity brother. Thando is a musician and entrepreneur, while Wandi is a presenter, musician, and businesswoman.

The Pretoria native has appeared in several productions, including Uzalo Season 1 – 4 (as Mxolisi Xulu), Impilo: The Scam – Season 1 (as Pacino), Isibaya – Season 2 Tshepo (as Nay Maphalala), Skeem Saam – Season 8 as Mxolisi, as well as The Queen – Season 4 (as Dingane Khoza). His biggest project remains the South African TV series, Uzalo. The series brought so much fame and fortune on his way, and all the credit goes to his outstanding performance therein. Indeed, Mr Maphalala put in his best in the project, and it panned out really nice.

If there is one thing Maps’ fans are certain of, it is the fact that his talents will one day pave the way for something bigger for him career-wise. The actor is yet to win any award for his roles in the entertainment industry. Still, we are not ruling out the possibility of that happening anytime soon – after all, he has the potentials, and he is good at what he does.

He was also part of the group that contested in season eight of the reality competition series Tropika Island of Treasure, which aired on SABC 3. He was featured as a celebrity contestant. Being a talented musician, Nay Maps has done the song cover of works by prominent musicians. Some of them include “Controller” by Drake and “Adorn” by Miguel. He has a keen interest in RnB, Soul, and Hip-hop, but he is yet to release any song for all his fans. The Pretoria-born actor plans to work with some big names in the South African music industry and drop some hits soonest. Besides singing and acting, Maps is a great pianist.

Nay is also the CEO and founder of the clothing line Nay May Clothing. He launched the fashion business some time ago, and it has seen great growth so far. The actor’s clothing brand is located in Durban, but he has already started expanding the business and establishing stores in other provinces.

Q&A With Nay Maps

PLEASE SHARE WITH US WHO NAY MAPS IS?

I have roots in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Gauteng but mostly I grew up in Pretoria and come from humble beginnings. I am the first-born and the only son in the family, followed by my two gorgeous younger sisters whom I love with my whole heart. I started my acting career in TV commercials. Even though I had always envisioned and dreamt of being a movie star and an international brand, it was when I shot the first commercial that I felt in my heart that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

WHAT ELSE HAS BEEN YOUR PASSION BESIDES ACTING?

I have always been passionate about being an actor but prior to really discovering and focusing on that, I actually wanted to be an international professional footballer and be the second South African to ever play for Manchester United in England.

WHO WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR FAVOURITE ACTOR?

My favourite actors are Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS?

I see myself being financially free, and having shot a lot of blockbuster movies. I also have plans to create more music that changes the world and fashion that is internationally and globally recognised.

WHAT IS YOUR INSPIRATION?

My biggest inspiration is life. The creation and the creator of life. To live out my ideas and interests and not hold back.

WHAT GETS YOU UP IN THE MORNING?

Living my dream and working to make sure I fulfill each and every dream, gift and talent I possess. What drives me is seeing my family happy, knowing that I overcame obstacles and achieving my goals in life. I believe that all things are possible and that I can achieve anything I desire and put my mind on as long as I believe.

WHAT DO YOU GET UP TO ON YOUR DOWNTIME?

I love travelling to islands overseas but I find myself in Cape Town a lot as I love the weather and scenery there. I love trying out new spots to dine, socialising, listening to music and creating music and fashion.

Do not think highly of yourself than you ought to. No one is better than anyone. Respect people as you never know whom you are talking to. A lot can change in a year, you could be sweeping and cleaning the streets today but tomorrow you could the CEO of your own company. Do not despise small beginnings.
