Love ke Scam: Man Allegedly ‘Got Mad at His Girl’ and Destroyed $5 Million Worth of Art

A man allegedly told authorities that he broke into the Dallas Museum of Art Wednesday night and damaged more than $5 million worth of art pieces because he “got mad at his girl,” NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reports.

Brian Hernandez, 21, was arrested shortly after he got into the museum around 9:40 p.m. by using a metal chair to break the glass front entrance. According to an arrest warrant, a motion sensor alerted a guard about Hernandez illegally entering the building, so he and another guard went to see what was going on.

When asked what he was doing, Hernandez said “he got mad at his girl so he broke in and started destroying property.” He was told to sit on a bench because the guards were going to call the police, and that’s exactly what he did. Once officers arrived, they walked around the museum with the director of security to survey the extent of the damage.

Police noticed a number of pieces, valued at $5 million, were destroyed. A 6th Century ceramic cup known as “Kylix Herakles and Nemeon Lion,” worth a reported $100,000, was one of the items damaged. “The items inside of the display cases that were destroyed are rare ancient artifacts that are extremely precious and one of a kind,” police said in the affidavit.

Hernandez was arrested for criminal mischief greater than $300,000. He’s being held on a $100,000 bond.
