All you need to know about Etv Scandal's new family (The Kubeka's)

ETV Scandal has decided to shake things up by introducing a new family, The Kubeka's.

Fana Mokoena joins the cast as Vukile Kubeka, a man who moved to Jozi to start a life with his wife after he was retrenched in KwaZulu-Natal. They start out as waste pickers, until a dodgy opportunity presents itself, which he grabs and uses to make it to the top. He now owns uThuli Waste, alongside his wife and children.

Vukile wants to create a legacy for his family and make sure there is generational wealth, but most importantly he wants to keep his family united. He has charm, a sense of humour, but has a dark side if and when crossed. He loves all his children but connects most strongly with Dudu, who he sees as the rightful heir. When threatened, he loses control and can be dangerous.

He believes that he is a good husband to his wife, while he might have a side piece, his wife is his true partner. He is a manipulative and kind boss to his workers. He is a job creator and is well respected. He believes the road to power is paved with dirt and has no qualms with getting dirty. The golf course is his second office.

His wife Nomvula is played by the award winning Slindile Nodangala. Nomvula is strategic in business and family relations. She’s an adept fixer who is smart and delicate enough to manipulate a situation with raising her voice.

She’s an equal to her husband but won’t argue with him in public. She’s stern but always doting on her children. She runs her family like she runs pockets of departments and controls them well.  A woman who is learning and unlearning with each obstacle. And that’s her power.

She is quick to adjust to the demands of an issue at hand. She keeps her cards close to her chest and is very calculating. She is a brilliant cook and nurturer. Her surprising quality is that she is quite adept at technology and knows her way around a computer.

The couple has three children, Jojo, Dudu and Zenzele. The children are played by Melusi Mbhele, Sihle Ndaba and Robert Mpisi, respectively. Jojo’s wife Mbali is played by Nolwazi Ngubeni. Wendy Gumede also joins the cast as Rachel. She is a cashier at the waste management company as well as Vukile’s side-chick. She’s warm, friendly and welcoming, connects easily with people. She looks like a young Nomvula, which speaks to Vukile’s taste.

The new family is set to shake things up and Scandal! producers Sanele Zulu, Grace Mahlaba and Ilse van Hemert are very excited about what is coming up.

"The producers of Scandal are delighted that we were able to sign such a stellar cast as the movers and shakers needed for our new mega-story. For our patriarch we needed a very special actor with a compelling screen presence, and Fana Mokoena is exactly that. Fana's return to the screen is a huge coup for Scandal!. In fact, we feel like that about all the new talents joining our show - each brings something unique and exciting to their role. Scandal's future is looking very bright."

Silindile says she is grateful for the opportunity to work, especially in the middle of a pandemic.

“It’s a blessing and an honor, I’m really grateful to God to have a Job ngexesha elinzima kangaka. Expect a lot of deception, manipulation, love, family love, what you achieve when patriarchy and matriarchy is in-sync.

“On the other hand, how crucial it is to heal our childhood traumas as parents cause if not healed, they become threatening situations to our children. How we feed poison to our children under the guise of love! In a nutshell, it’s a story of a family wealth built on shaky ground now, let’s see how the Kubeka's will salvage the obstacles awaiting them!”

Nolwazi also couldn’t be happier.

“It's amazing to join such an incredible show. I'm excited for the audience to see how my character will develop and what the new family brings.”
