One of such people is the beautiful actress and singer Rosemary Zimu. Her entertainment talents have not just given her a huge reputation in the South African entertainment scene alone, but also in other African countries.

Although she does not have any academic qualification or training that has to do with entertainment, Rosemary Zimu has excelled in her career and that is all down to natural talent. From a very young age, she always knew what she wanted, and today, she has grown from that girl who wanted to be an actress to becoming a successful South African actress with international recognition. She is a phenomenal actress, songwriter, singer, and voice artist. She is not just famous for these things because she has featured in some of the most popular series in the country and has already built a huge fanbase from acting, but rather because she is actually good at the things she does.


Rosemary  was born into a family of nine on the 15th of April 1993. She was the second child of the family, however, after her birth, her family continued to grow as her mum successfully gave birth to five other children, making them seven.

Her father was absent from the family, so her mother had to take up the entire responsibility of taking care of Rosemary and her siblings. Thankfully, her mother was able to successfully see them through elementary school and cater to their needs. 


Rosemary Zimu’s interest in acting started very early, and her parents were quick to notice it and help her nurture the talent. At the age of 18, she was already being featured in theater productions like Moulin Rouge, and finally, in 2014, she played a role in the Nollywood movie ‘Champagne’. This role gave her much-desired recognition in South Africa and in other countries.

Her performance in the movie also earned her the nomination for the award of Most Promising Actress of the Year – even though she did not win. In 2017, she landed a role in Mzansi Magic’s Wena Wedwa, and that same year she was featured in the first South African Netflix movie, Shadow. This was another role that helped boost her career.


In 2018, she was featured in Mzansi Magic’s Ilangatje, and following that, she landed another acting gig, playing the role of ‘Veronica’ in the popular South African soap opera, Isidingo. After being a part of Isidingo from 2018 to 2019, she joined the cast of Generations: The Legacy, where she played the role of Thembeka, a high-class prostitute. In 2020, she was featured in Scandal! as Lily Juice.

In the second half of 2020, she joined the cast of the famous South African TV series The Queen where she played the character of Mildred’s daughter. 2022 She recently featured in SA's biggest movie Savage Beauty.


Movie producers are not the only ones that have noticed Rosemary’s talent, brands and companies have done so as well. She has been featured in commercials for some of the big brands in South Africa. In 2015, she was featured in a commercial for Instant Porridge. Two years later, Debonairs Pizza Catch Up, VW Retail “Drive-in” and Strepsils “Mr T Fresh” featured her in their commercials as well.

In 2018, she landed more advert gigs from Facebook Hack, Nedbank, Altron, and Bailey’s, and in 2019, she was featured in commercials for Heineken – Desperados, Showmax, and Vodacom.


One of the things that helped Rosemary Zimu gain so much recognition, especially by most of the brands that she worked with for commercials is her sensational singing voice. She released her debut album, Roro Says, which was a hit.
